Peak District Photography Workshop
Learn how to take better landscape photographs on our Peak District photography course
The Peak district photography workshop is the newest addition to our photography courses. Having moved to the edge of the Peak district in May 2012 Neil began photographing its unique landscape. After many photography trips to Kinder plateau, in the dark peak region of the district, Neil formulated a photography workshop for this area. Although the course has only been running since June 2012 it is already proving to be a popular workshop choice.
The workshop begins in the little village of Hayfield in Derbyshire. Our meeting place varies with the seasons but it will either be Rosie's café or the Royal hotel. Here we will discuss digital photography, DSLR cameras and photographic technique in detail. Neil will also talk about composition, specifically the 'rule of thirds' and how employing this technique can improve your photography. Both successful and unsuccessful composition will be discussed and Neil will show you examples from his own portfolio of work.
After the introductory tutorial the group will head up to Bowden bridge car park before making the ascent up to Kinder plateau.
The route to the top takes you past the impressive Hayfield reservoir, which looks stunning at first light. This is a great place to start making images and putting in to practice some of the theory already discussed. After photographing the reservoir and its water tower we will continue our ascent until the terrain levels out and moorland becomes prevalent. Stunning views across derbyshire can now be seen which we will photograph using a selection of filters. Moving higher up the plateau towards Kinder downfall gives us the opportunity to explore some of the huge rock formations which provide ideal foreground interest. These huge boulders have been carved by the elements over centuries and are said to have influenced many artists, including the sculptor Henry Moore. Weather permitting, we will end the workshop photographing these abstract rock formations at sunset.
