Isle of Skye Photography Workshop
Learn how to take better landscape photographs in a variety of stunning locations on the Isle of Skye

The Isle of Skye is situated off the north west coast of Scotland and is the largest of the Inner Hebrides islands. Photographing on Skye is a unique experience and one which you will never forget. The varying landscape on Skye make it a favourite destination for photographers and artists. Our five day workshop will give you a detailed insight into the art of landscape photography as well as some fantastic new images to add to your portfolio. As a group of 5-6 people we will explore numerous different locations across the island and photograph at optimum times of the day including dusk and dawn. From the magnificent Cuillin mountains in the south to the breathtaking sea cliffs in the north, our Skye workshop will give you a wealth of opportunity to capture the light and the landscape.

Our base for the duration of the workshop is the idyllic Sligachan hotel. This conveniently situated hotel has been recently modernised and offers high-quality, cosy, accommodation and excellent cuisine. The price of the workshop includes a five night stay at the Sligachan, with all group members staying in their own single room (no sharing or single room supplements). Breakfast, lunch and a three course evening meal are included* Transport for the duration of the trip is also provided, all you have to do is arrive at the hotel with your gear and we'll take care of the rest.

A brief insight into some of the locations we will be visiting are listed below. For more details about this course and availability please contact us.

Braes/Balmeanach Bay - 360 degrees of subject matter.

This location is only a few miles away from our base at the Sligachan Hotel. It is the smallest area that we cover during our stay on Skye - no more than two miles total walking. The bay is situated on the east coastline and contains some fantastic photo opportunities. Point your camera in any direction and you will have a myriad of subject matter to explore. To the east, stunning views of the Sound of Raasay - a narrow stretch of ocean that separates Skye from the Isle of Raasay. Looking south offers views of the bay itself with the impressive mountain range of Glamaig. The bay is an excellent location for serious landscape photographers.

Glenbrittle

Glenbrittle is a large glen in the south west of the isle. This is another location with plenty of stunning vantage points for landscape photography. We will walk south along the shoreline of Loch Brittle - an impressive sea loch which boasts some truly magnificent views. The bay is overlooked from the east by the awesome Cuillin Hills - the largest mountain range on the Isle of Skye. A vast number of mountain steams run down the Cuillins and in to the loch below. These flowing streams are another great focal point on which to concentrate. Add to this the formidable backdrop of the mountains and you have a scene full of interest, which demands to be photographed.

Trotternish Peninsular

The Old Man of Storr takes in one of the most striking and visually rewarding landscapes in the whole of the highlands and islands. Situated on the Trotternish peninsular, the Old Man of Storr is a craggy but easily reached summit that rises high above the sea cliffs and forms part of a strange wonderland of rock stacks. Our workshop will provide numerous opportunities for creative landscape capture - from imposing, weather eroded, rock columns to the magnificent sheer cliffs of The Storr itself, all set against the sweeping panorama of the Sound of Raasay.

Dunvegan Castle and Gardens

Dunvegan Castle is located in the north/west corner of Skye and sits on the shores of Loch Dunvegan. The building is the oldest inhabited castle in Scotland and has belonged to the Macleod clan for 800 years. The building is surrounded by five acres of formal gardens containing a vast collection of colourful plants and water pools. The gardens make excellent subject matter for photographers and anyone owning a macro lens should pack it in their kit bag on this day. Photographing inside the castle building is prohibited but the estate allows our group to make images of the exterior from a number of different vantage points.

Neist Point - a breathtaking and picture taking seascape.

Neist Point is a spectacular location situated on the north west coastline of the island. The area is renowned for its rock formations which are very similar to those seen at The Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland and it has been suggested that the causeway extends under the Atlantic from Ireland to Skye. With panoramic coastal and sea views across to the Outer Hebrides, dramatic wave lashed sea cliffs, and a highly photogenic lighthouse, our time spent at Neist Point is one of the most enjoyable and productive of the whole trip.

Book this course

*As this is a photography trip we are out on location for a large percentage of the day. Some meals may be missed. Packed lunches will be provided and our vehicle also contains healthy snacks and refreshments. On one of the days we will be concentrating on a sunset and twilight shoot at Neist Point, the location is some distance from our accommodation - for this reason our evening meal will be in the late afternoon at the Dunvegan castle tea rooms.
